The universe is ever-changing and nothing stays the same... That is an established fact of life. Man has taken advantage of change, to modify the natural world to suit their needs and wants, leaving the planet barely recognisable to its old inhabitants. However, in this world, a freak accident has caused things to change beyond human recognition. In the wake of the large comet that crashed into the planet's surface, Earth has been wrought with a series of changes that have left the human inhabitants hanging on to the last vestiges of hope and sanity.
The first disaster was caused by the impact of the comet. It was large enough to cause the tectonic plates to shift, triggering off a series of volcanic eruptions and causing people to flee from the Pacific Ring of Fire. After the volcanoes had cooled off and the panicked populations of the affected countries had been calmed down, came the next disaster. Without explanation, the temperature of the world dropped drastically, and the Equator experienced snow for the first time. When scientists finally realised it was caused by the comet somehow slipping through a crack in the Earth's crust and mixing with the core, it was too late to do anything. The Ice Age had already begun.
There was nothing the people left on Earth could do except salvage what they could, and adapt to the changed planet. For decades, no one approached the area where the comet had fallen, wary of poisonous gases released from the site, not realising that change was still taking place there. By the time the population of the Earth had settled down and adapted to the bitter cold, and begun to explore the new world, another disaster struck. Monsters seemed to have invaded their world, large and terrifying, unlike anything else they had seen before. They seemed to have come right out of the old myths and stories, legendary creatures that couldn't be tamed by anything.
For some time, humans fought a losing battle against the fierce beasts and against the cold. However, change returned to their side, and the humans themselves began to change, evolving and gaining abilities that allowed them to live in the harsh environment and to deal with the beasts. In the past, they would have been called mutants, freaks, and killed on sight... but in this new world, these genetic aberrations were revered as heroes. They were strong enough to battle the monstrous beasts and some were even able to tame them to do good for mankind.
Before long, a researcher discovered the cause of these powers. The comet's crash had disrupted the Earth's flow badly, enough that a new power had been unlocked, and begun seeping into the world. This power also began to affect animals and people, giving them the power that had remained a product of fantasy for centuries- Magic.
Eventually, Earth began to warm up, leading to worldwide celebrations and a general aura of cheer amongst the humans. Some people were wary though, although the Ice Age seemed to be ending, what would the world hold for them next? Now that the existence of unicorns, winged horses, fairies and even were-animals had become more than myths, it was very possible that the cold temperatures had protected them from another danger. The warm temperatures could wake those sleeping beasts hidden deep within the caves, those known in legends worldwide... Dragons.
However, before the researchers could investigate further, war erupted without warning. Some countries had taken the opportunity to strike while the other countries were still weak and recovering. This was the chance to return to the glory days of empires and kingdoms. No one could be trusted, everyone was an enemy, and the days of peace were soon forgotten. Shaky alliances were formed, siblings were pitted against each other, and the world quickly sank back into a different kind of darkness.
In this world, anything and everything can happen. Change is always present, while chaos reigns. What will you do for survival?
