I am stridernarukami, and I'm glad to be a part of this forum. I guess I should tell you a little about myself. I have a heavy interest in reading, metroidvanias, both 2D and 3D (like Arkham Asylum), the first Soul Reaver, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Infamous 2, ninjas, and of course, Persona 4.
P3 and P4 are probably one of the few higher-selling games that let the main character have a social life. It truly gives you the feeling of having a secret indentity. It's a shame it isn't used more often. For example, Playing as Bruce Wayne more in the Arkham games certainly would have benifited from this. In the comics, he had to go undercover a few times, so, he could have had criminal social link informants, not to mention more interesting missions with Catwoman.
I honestly think this mechanic should be in more games, or maybe even have the social life as the ONLY part of the game. People could always use more virtual friends...
EDIT: Shenmue is a perfect example of a realistic hero who has at least a semblance of a social life. If you keep calling Nozomi on the phone, Ryo ALMOST confesses his love to her, so, it was a start for earlier social links, if nothing else.
It's a remarkable coincidence how these games all take place in Japan. It must be fate.
