Personality: Kou is quite a cheerful and somewhat goofy soul, he is often joking around and can usually be found with a smile on his face. He can be somewhat immature at times as well, however, often if he is flustered or embarrassed at the time.
Kou is quite hard to anger and it is quite rare to see him as such since he tries not to make a show of it even if he is. It is, however, easier to frustrate him, as he often feels that way with his team, who more often than not don't share his enthusiasm for basketball and often seem like they are just going through the motions rather than trying to win or have a good time.
Kou also harbors some insecurities however, mostly related to his family. Since he was adopted by a family who believed they couldn't have children, but did come to have a girl later on. This has led Kou towards the belief that he is unneeded and could be cast off at a moments notice.
History: Kou was put up for adoption at a young age, too young to remember who his biological parents are.
Kou was adopted by Ichijo family, a quite strict and traditional family who believed they were unable to have children of their own and as such Kou was adopted and raised with the intention of being the heir to the family.
His grandmother made many of his decisions in life, such as what sports he could play and he would be forced to attend high society gatherings to improve his reputation.
However a few years ago his adoptive family did end up having a child after all, a girl named Sachiko. Since then Kou has been allowed more freedom and it's fairly clear Sachiko will be the heir to the family now. While Kou is happy he is now able to make more his own decisions in life it has also led to his previously mentioned insecurities, as he soon came to feel that he wasn't needed anymore and as if he had lost his worth.
However, thanks to the help of his friends, Daisuke and Souji, he has begun to overcome his insecurities. He's still not entirely sure where he fits in with his family, but he has begun to see his value again.
