Personality: Noel is, primarily, a very sweet and understanding boy. While he isn't exactly outgoing, he'll always stop to ask someone who looks like they're having trouble if they need help, and he is living proof that chivalry isn't dead, holding doors for people, pulling out seats, offering to help anyone in any way that they need. He's excellent at listening to others' problems, but he never pries, merely letting them know that he's there if they need a non-judgmental shoulder to cry on.
Noel is a dedicated student- he has to be, or the program he is with would send him back to France in a heartbeat- but he still always has time to wander around Inaba, getting to know the people and the places. Due to his cousin's incessant rambling about his love of all things Japanese, Noel has a decent idea about the culture, and though he doesn't quite blend in seamlessly, he does a pretty good job of not drawing too much attention to himself most times.
History: Noel was the third in a line of six children, and spent much of his life taking care of his younger siblings while his parents were at work. That isn't to say that he was neglected- he merely had the ability to nurture the three young girls in a way that his older two brothers didn't. His parents worked often, and Noel's family, unlike his second-or-third cousin Andre's, was fairly well off, so none of the children wanted for anything... except, maybe, a bit of attention.
He knew that he preferred men to women by the time he was twelve, and his family could see it clear as day. They shrugged it off- what did it matter, really?- and life went on. If he was a little more effeminate than his brothers, well, to each his own. When Andre returned from his trip to Japan, he told the whole family about it... extensively. Noel, being polite, always listened, and this encouraged Andre to tell him more and more until Noel started to become curious.
He'd always been a good student, but it took him a while to convince his parents that he could keep it up while in a different country. Two years, in fact. Still, he managed it, and finally was able to join an exchange program that placed him with a host family in Inaba, Japan...
