Series: Persona 4
Name: Satonaka, Chie
Gender: Female
Height: 158cm
Weight: 120-something lbs. She doesn't really keep track.
Age: Seventeen
Class: 2-2
Clubs: None so far.
Likes:
Martial Arts ; Surprisingly, Chie's learned a lot of her killer kicks from simply watching way too many kung fu movies. The martial artists -- fictional or not -- are like her heroes, and she trains her hardest in hopes to someday match their skills and legends.
Meat ; Like every girl, Chie won't say no to sweets. (Let's not get started about chocolate.) But when she really needs something to indulge in, it's a beef bowl at Aiya's or a steak croquette. She respects the will it takes for someone to be a vegetarian, but could never do it herself.
Sports ; Though she hasn't devoted herself to one, sports and just general fitness are her favourite pastime. For Chie, running around and working up a good sweat is the most fun she has.
Dislikes:
Girliness ; Or moreso her innate ability to simply not be girly. Makeup makes her skin itch, and she refuses to wear a skirt without spats underneath. Chie definitely respects (And can be a little wary of) girls who have the confidence to show themselves off -- Like Rise -- but it's just one challenge she can't rise to as excitedly.
Cooking ; Not that she hates the act in itself, but Chie can never seem to create anything palatable. Her (mis)adventures in the kitchen often end up with an unconscious taste-tester. She's in a bit of denial that she can't cook, however.
Worrying ; Chie hates being the one left behind to worry, and would rather be on the front lines and be of some use in battle. She can't sit still when left to it, otherwise her mind begins to imagine worse and worse situations that could happen.
Personality: Around Inaba, Chie is known for her skills in martial arts and powerful kicks to knock any obnoxious person into next Tuesday. Though more often than not does she result in comical violence, she's a very kind person --even if it might not be the first thing you think of when you talk to her. Unlike most girls, she can have a bit of a foul mouth. Despite all, she's a positive young woman, and is always energetic, unless it comes to studying.
She won't stand for injustice, and has always defended the weaker. If she has strength, why not use it for something good after all? When thrown into it she can get pretty emotional, especially when it comes to someone close to her. Then her protective streak goes on high wire. It was hard for her to admit, but something about being protective and praised for it made her just that little bit haughty -- enough for her shadow to personify it. She does her best not to think that way now.
As strong as a character as Chie is portrayed, she's very self-conscious of herself. She doesn't know what her 'good points' are; what positive bits of personality she can show. While she prides herself on her physical strength, her inner strength still needs some work, and she knows it. Chie doesn't find herself terribly pretty; she leaves that to the obviously good-looking girls like Yukiko and Rise.
History: Born and raised in Inaba, Chie's family has been in the town for a number of generations now. She knew little other scenery, save for what was on TV, and the sparing school trips the public school took. At a young age, she met Yukiko Amagi, a girl she knew by name but of little else. Even young she was a little inwardly jealous of the Amagi family for being so well off, while she was so terribly middle-class.
The day Chie met her, Yukiko had run away from home because her parents wouldn't allow her to keep a stray dog she had found. Chie, the type to befriend quickly, offered to take the dog instead, to give it a home. (Her parents gave the okay to get a pet eventually anyhow.) Chie still has the dog to this day, only it has grown to be old, fat, and stinky. Besides the aging dog, Chie and Yukiko became fast friends.
Throughout their school career, Yukiko was always attractive to boys. Chie became her protector, promising to make sure no stupid boys hurt her. Since Yukiko was awkward with guys, it worked out beneficially to both of them. Yukiko didn't have to deal with boys, and Chie had a reason to train.
Besides the natural excitement of a transfer student coming to town, Chie did little else in the welcoming of Yosuke to Inaba. They talked, and she even lent him parts of her prized movie collection -- most of which contained her all time hero, Bruce Lee. She took the liberty of using him to test out some new kicks, but of course, only when she had a proper excuse. (Like calling her up just to tell her a dirty joke or something. Or harming her precious DVDs.)
She talked to Souji when he moved to town as easily as she did Yosuke. Though the rumour of the Midnight channel was just too good to pass up. She got them both to try it out; Yukiko had become so busy with the inn. She was a bit concerned though, after trying out the Midnight channel and seeing a girl.
As the mystery deepened -- and Chie was thoroughly creeped out by Souji's TV-entering abilities, initially -- she was forced to confront the dark jealousy in her own heart. She hated seeing it herself, and she hated others seeing it. (Thus why she told Yosuke and Souji to go away when her shadow began to spill her secrets.) Her jealousy for Yukiko's natural talent and beauty and intellect had grown right under her nose, and she hated it. A holier-than-thou attitude was amplified by her other self, feeling so superior by Yukiko's praises for her.
She recognized her jealousy over time. She was never going to be Yukiko, and had to accept that. It helped her grow into a better person, knowing that she had to focus more on how to develop her own positives, rather than being negative about someone else's.
Appearance: Chie is a short-haired girl, always in a green athletic jacket. When it comes to apparel, she goes for practicality, usually; if she can kick in it, she'll wear it. Though often unseen, she never wears her school uniform without spats underneath.
