[Persona 3]
[/size]Haruka Fujiwara[/color][/size]
Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly,
or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.[/size][/center]
Name: Haruka Fujiwara
Gender: Female
Height: Five feet, five inches
Weight: One hundred and fifteen pounds
Age: Seventeen
Class: Haruka was assigned to class 2-F after transferring to Gekkoukan.
Clubs: Having arrived just as clubs were filling up, her options were extremely limited. There were just enough spots for her to join the tennis club, though she doesn't know a thing one way or another about sports. She also managed to earn herself a spot in the music club, due to her abilities with a violin. She was slightly disappointed that there were no language clubs at Gekkoukan and the thought of attempting to start one herself was tempting, but she decided that she hadn't the motivation to do so.
Likes:
[violin]
When she was very young, Haruka's mother was obsessed with her becoming a prodigy. She was put through lessons of varying things. Horseback, piano, swimming, flute, ballet. Though neither very stubborn nor confrontational, Haruka managed to figure her way out of all these things. She hates horses, she was horrible at piano, she's afraid of drowning, she has two left feet. Finally, her mother struck upon something she really cared for. After weeks of taking a violin, while not exactly a prodigy, Haruka found that it was something both comfortable and almost familiar. She took it up quite well, and while her mother was disappointed that Haruka wasn't to be a famous child star, her love for violin showed. At seventeen, Haruka has been playing violin for nearly thirteen years and has grown to play it quite exceptionally.
[dreaming]
Life isn't happy. Life isn't butterflies and flowers and holding hands and smiles. Haruka knows this well enough to know that what's in her head is more beautiful than anything life could show her. Whether awake or asleep, Haruka is thinking, dreaming. She creates worlds, she creates people, she creates. Though she knows it's just a dream, that it'll fade and she might forget about it, she doesn't care. She loves that she can be whatever, whoever, whenever; whatever pleases her is right there. Sometimes, it feels to her that the real world is more a dream than her imaginary ones are. Due to the fact that she is so obsessed with dreaming, she has often heard people commenting that she's not "quite all there," or "has one foot out the door already." More often than not, she can be seen head supported by hand, staring out a window, eyes glazed.
[questions]
She loves to ask and answer; she's naturally very curious. Haruka thinks that infinity lies in one's ability to ask questions. Due to always thinking, she finds a lot to ponder on. Out of the blue, she'll ask a classmate something haphazard and unexpected. Often, they don't answer. Perhaps this is partially why she has yet to make any real friends at Gekkoukan.
"Does free will exist? If a God sees our entire lives before we're even born, is it because of the choices we are making or are we making these choices because it's already been seen?"
[kittens]
Kittens are the incarnate spirit of happiness.
[language]
Haruka studied several foreign languages during her mother's relentless assault of lessons and it was one of the few things, among the violin, that she particularly enjoyed. Language tickles her; it's amazing, she finds, that a single sentence spoken in French, English, Japanese, Swahili, any given language will mean the same thing, no matter how different it sounds. Her mother quickly realized that Haruka would not become famous through learning languages, so her lessons in a variety of them ceased. She has, however, studied and learned French and English on her own. She knows quite a bit of the former and is fluent in the latter, along with her native tongue. She loves to speak to people in foreign languages, whether or not they can understand what she's saying.
[botany]
Haruka loves to care for things. She is generally very giving and very compassionate. Her aunt, however unfortunate, refuses to allow Haruka to own a kitten or a dog due to her allergies. So, Haruka turned her affection into growing plants. She has a little garden outside her window that she tends to everyday without fail. She's one of those people, the ones who will talk to their plants and treat them like they're children. Though she's not so obsessive as to cry, Haruka still becomes very upset and quiet for days after a favorite plant passes away. Whenever talking to another person about her hobbies, she'll often say that there is magic to growing plants.
Dislikes:
[horses]
They are large and ugly and smelly and mean. Haruka was often thrown from horses during horseback riding lessons and spent days without being able to sit without wincing. She hates the smell of manure, she hates how awkward horses look. She finds nothing about them appealing in the least and doesn't think much of so-called horse fanatics. To her, there is just no enjoyment in taking care of, riding, or liking horses.
[vegetarianism]
Haruka loves the smell of meat. She will sit in the beef bowl place and just inhale. She is a forced vegetarian. Her mother, obese, was obsessed with being skinny and would have rather killed Haruka than see her anything other than thin. Haruka didn't eat even the slightest amount of meat until she was fourteen. While she loves the smell of meat, Haruka's digestive system doesn't handle it very well. She can eat little bits of things such as turkey, chicken, or seafood, but she becomes very sick if she eats red meat. Her own personal convictions are that some animals are on Earth to be eaten and that's it, but she can't enjoy the delicacies she so craves to try thanks to her mother. Thus, she doesn't have much respect for the practice because it was forced upon her; it was not her choice. She simply doesn't understand not having the desire to partake in one of the most primal human tendencies: to hunt and to consume what was killed.
[people]
Haruka would like to think that human nature is good. But she knows far too well that humans are naturally selfish and self-preserving. Most care for themselves first, worry about others later. She likes to study people, to observe and her findings have showed her that by far, people are not to be trusted. No matter how close one becomes to a person, they can still turn around and stab one in the back. Haruka has been left, abandoned, mocked by "friends," taken advantage of, treated poorly. She knows first-hand how horrible most people can be. She's not very trusting of many people.
[obstinacy]
As someone who is not very opinionated or stubborn, Haruka cannot identify with someone who is obstinate, who feels especially strongly about one thing or another. She wouldn't go so far as to say that she hates stubborn people, she just dislikes when people are stubborn or show that particular trait often. It is something that she simply doesn't understand.
[perversity]
Haruka was never taught about sex. She never hung out with people who knew terms, acts, or slang for anything remotely related. She's heard things, of course, being seventeen. However, most jokes or comments about such things go over her head. It's not that she doesn't like dirty jokes or doesn't appreciate a lewd comment made in good humor, it's that it seems that everyone except her understands. It makes her feel left out that she doesn't understand and everyone else does; she doesn't like being left out of the loop, but she's far too embarrassed to ask a question like, "What, exactly, does it mean to give head?"
Personality:
[quiet]
Haruka doesn't have much of a personality. She doesn't like people very much and she prefers to keep to herself, unless asking ridiculous questions or doing a "hands-on" study of human nature by conversing with a classmate. Generally, she keeps to herself and thus doesn't speak much. It's not that she's shy, she's just quiet. Haruka likes to be involved, but because of a bit of eccentricity, she's not often invited. And if she is, she's often the one who doesn't add anything to the conversation but just sits and smiles at all the jokes. She's been called quiet, she's been called creepy, but she just isn't sure how to interact with people.
[innocent]
Her father left when she was young and her mother was overprotective and controlling. Haruka only knows very little about the way of the world and most of the things she does know has come from reading or overhearing people talking. She is sheltered and an innocent soul. She doesn't really understand sex or taboo subjects. If it's not too embarrassing, she'll ask a silly question such as why it isn't okay for girls and boys to change in the same dressing room or why some people aren't okay with two men hugging. She can even be downright awkward at times. When her 'guard' is down and she experiments with being herself (though she really hasn't any clue as to who she is, currently), Haruka makes stupid jokes and can be quite clumsy, both physically (tripping over things, bumping into people) and socially.
[wistful]
As a dreamer, Haruka seems to live in a different world at times. She takes the pose of the epitome of wistfulness, staring out a window with her head held in her hand, her eyes in a faraway place. She likes to think about things that could be, could have been, or will be. She often speculates and asks herself things about choice. It takes Haruka a long time to make even a simple choice ("chocolate or vanilla?" might lead to a long, thoughtful pause) as she is terrified of regretting something.
[mild-mannered]
She doesn't care about much. Haruka isn't very passionate and she has a habit of just agreeing to whatever someone asks her. Because this is so deeply rooted in her personality, she gets taken advantage of frequently; sometimes a person doesn't even mean to, it's so easy. If it's within her power, she will do anything for a person. She's allowed people to cheat off her, she's taken the blame for something she never did, she's lent out countless yen that's never been paid back, she's gone out with boys that she doesn't really care for. Haruka is a people-pleaser in the truest sense of the word. She smiles easily, doesn't speak out of turn, and doesn't like the slightest hint of confrontation.
[angry]
Inside, Haruka is very frustrated and angry. She has a very hot temper that is extremely easy to set off. However, her mother trained her when she was young. If her temper showed, she was hit, scolded, even locked in her room. It doesn't take much to make Haruka angry. People taking advantage of her frustrates her to no end, but she's learned to just smile and accept the offer. Make them happy, she can break something later. Her room is a mess because of her bad habit. At the end of the day, when all her anger and frustrations have built, she goes home and breaks things. She throws vases, figurines. She tears pillows, rips books. It's the only outlet she allows herself to have because her upbringing chains her. The passion and person she'd like to be are chained by her mother's visions for her life. So, she stays non-confrontational around others; she'll smile, she'll get along just fine, but she really does hate the person she is and most of the people she's around. It's easy enough for her to mask anymore; it's become her lifestyle. Stay quiet and out of sight, don't get too passionate about anything, and nobody will bother her.
[generous]
The part of Haruka that doesn't hate people loves to give. She loves to make people (the sincerely kind ones, anyway) happy and she will do whatever she needs to in order to assure their happiness. A lover of animals and plants as well, she will spend ample time caring for pets or her little personal garden. She has compassion for fauna and flora, especially, due to her complicated feelings about people.
[unmotivated]
Lazy. It describes Haruka to a T. She's one of the students who rarely has their homework completed on time. She doesn't do projects very well and she's lost several jobs because she just quit going. An idea will strike her ("I'm going to write a book!" "I'm going to clean this house!") but after a while, she just loses the will to try to do it. Her grades in school are horrible because of this and combined with her constant daydreaming... she doesn't learn much. She likes to think that it's simply a personality disorder, but that's really just an excuse. "It's not my fault that I'm this way, so there's really nothing wrong with it." Not that very many try, but making plans with Haruka is difficult. She'll agree that hanging out is a great idea and seeing that movie that she actually thinks is ridiculously stupid looks great and yes, they should definitely do that after school one day! but usually such plans never come to fruition because she just doesn't feel like going.
Sometimes she will go, sometimes she won't. The fact that she is a people-pleaser conflicts with her desire to just blow off the plans. It depends on the person who asks her and what sort of state she's in and what her relationship and experience with the person is like.
[compulsive liar]
Haruka hates people to think of her as her mother did, so she often stretches the truth... or even change it completely. "Yes... unfortunately, my father died while traveling to America. His plane crashed and my mother died of heartbreak." She refuses to tell the truth about much of her past or her current home life. And her nature is completely based around telling lies; pleasing everyone is her full-time job and she couldn't manage it without lying or at the very least, not telling the truth. She also lies about even small things, such as her favorite band or color, or what kind of ice cream she prefers. Her answer constantly changes, because she responds with what she thinks the person talking to her would like to hear. Sometimes, she feels that she is only a reflection, not even a real human being. She smiles, she gives out money, she does favors, she responds with what will be most pleasing for another person to hear; she doesn't feel that she's even real.
History: Haruka doesn't know her birthday. She knows she was born in 1992 and probably sometime during the winter, maybe January. Her mother was a very selfish person and though she never said it, Haruka is very sure that her mother only had a baby for a second chance at life. Obese, stupid and lazy was the way Haruka saw and thought of her mother. She was pushing three hundred pounds, she dropped out of school when she was still in the elementary grades, and she couldn't be bothered to actually do anything with her life. But she wanted Haruka to be everything she never was.
Her mother started her in a variety of lessons at a very young age. Haruka learned to read by the time she was three years old and, after having a solid standing in her Japanese, her mother threw her into foreign languages. Haruka sampled a large amount of different tongues, though she didn't retain any of them except for French and English. After her mother's realization that Haruka would not become famous or rich by learning another language, those types of lessons stopped but Haruka fell in love with the complexity of foreign language. She taught herself French and English and is nearly fluent in the latter and knows quite a bit of the former. Instruments were another popular choice by Haruka's mother. Piano, flute, guitar, trumpet. None of them stuck, but the violin did. Haruka fell in love with its sound and it was the only thing she ever felt sincerely passionate about. When her mother tried to take her out of her violin lessons, Haruka begged, pleaded. Something very out of character for her, but such was her desire to continue learning to play the violin. Unhappy, her mother conceded and her violin lessons continued, though they were neither very frequent nor as long as her other lessons.
When she was six, her father disappeared. He had never really been part of the picture, anyway. When Haruka was at home, he was at work and when he was home, Haruka was at one of her many lessons or school. He was also very often out on business trips, though Haruka really thought they were more like "business trips." Haruka realized more than anyone what a horrible person her mother was and she wasn't very attractive, either. Thinking on it much later in life, Haruka would be surprised if her father hadn't carried on many affairs, especially seeing what little time he spent at home. She didn't notice at first, but her father basically pulled himself from Haruka's and her mother's lives; it was a slow gradual thing. He packed a box, took it away from the house, and another... his things slowly disappearing from their lives. When all his possessions were gone and out of the house, he never came home. It doesn't make her sad, she hardly knew the man. The only thing that sincerely upset her was seeing her callous, cold, controlling mother cry. It was the only time that ever happened.
School and lessons were the routine for Haruka's life. Her mother was bringing her up as she thought Haruka should be. She wasn't allowed to eat anything without her mother's permission, she wasn't allowed to speak up or out, she wasn't allowed to be passionate about anything without consequences. Haruka wasn't necessarily physically abused as a child, but her mother did hit her once in a while, to keep Haruka in place. Haruka learned to do as she was told, and even go out and beyond to please her mother, her instructors, her teachers, her senpai. She was a good student as a child; less than satisfactory grades would lead to a good lashing. Haruka neither hated nor loved her mother. She accepted her as a controlling bitch, a force of nature (or perhaps a natural disaster) that Haruka would just have to learn to live with, or around.
At fifteen, her mother passed away. It was a heart attack caused by her clogged arteries. Haruka didn't cry, but she didn't feel free, either. The conditioning she went through as a child had formed her; she was bound and chained by her mother, even after death. Because Haruka's father had so thoroughly disappeared from her life, she was left to live with her mother's sister, whom she hadn't seen nor heard from since she was a baby. The first few weeks in Port Island weren't bad, but soon after, her aunt's alcoholic tendencies began to show themselves. Her aunt Ai isn't violent or very loud when drunk, she's just a very sad human being, but she leaves Haruka alone most of the time. Her living arrangements thus suit Haruka just fine, though she is a little lonely. At Gekkoukan, she was able to join a couple clubs, but she lacks the social skills necessary to know how to interact with these people. She never had very many friends as a child, and she is thus quite awkward and inexperienced in the art of making friends.
It was after arriving in Iwatodai that Haruka discovered the Dark Hour. It was simple and not very dramatic. She just happened to open her eyes during the Dark Hour. Haruka was scared, of course, of the huge, greenish moon, the dark atmosphere, the bloody coffins everywhere. She spent her first few nights in the Dark Hour locked in her room, the twin sai she had kept from her lessons held firmly in hand to protect herself from the... monsters she could hear and catch glimpses of. It was almost a month later and after extensive research into the matter (from people with similar experiences, from the internet) that Haruka discovered her Persona. During that month, she had retaught herself sai skills and techniques, as well as taken up a strict daily training regimen. She had also happened upon an abandoned box filled with what looked like guns. Most were defective or rusty, but she found one that seemed like it fit perfectly in her hands, as if it had been made for her. The only thing wrong with it was a spelling error on the shaft of the gun.
It was that night that Haruka dared out onto the streets, sai hanging from a belt, her "gun" in hand. A disturbing tower loomed ahead of her, an even more creepy moon hanging in the sky, casting everything in a greenish glow. It was on the street that she saw another person being attacked by a Shadow (though she didn't know the name at that point) and it just clicked. She summoned her persona, Moloch, for the first time that night. He was giant and monstrous, rage seeming to pour from his skin. Both terrified and awed, Haruka battled the Shadow. With Moloch, she was no longer afraid and started to train him in the first few floors of the giant tower.
Appearance: Haruka is very pretty, in her own way. She has a unique style that is very plain and uncomplicated. Generally, when not in school, she wears dresses or shirts and skirts--she is quite feminine. However, she hardly ever wears patterns or jewelry or anything that might lead her to stand out. Her color choices are often earthy tones of green, brown, beige, and white. She blends in very easily; perhaps it's her bland personality affecting her appearance or carriage, but she can pass through crowds without being in the least noticed, which suits her just fine.
Haruka, through habit, takes very good care of herself and her appearance. She wears her hair long, though she rarely, if ever, styles it beyond a ponytail for gym or tennis club. It is very soft and shiny; it has never been colored, nor has anything such as a hair dryer or straightener touched it. She figured that it dries on its own just fine and her hair is naturally pin-straight. It is a very dark brown. Indoors, it could even be called black, but when the sun shines on Haruka's hair, it's very clear that it's a dark, dark brown with perhaps even a touch of reddish color.
She is thin, weighing only just a little over a hundred pounds. Her mother brought her up on a strict diet and it is rare to see her eating anything other than fruits and vegetables, and even then, in very small portions. She is a fat kid at heart, though, and loves sweets to an extreme extent, though she can't stand to eat them in large amounts. Haruka is somewhat flat-chested and doesn't have many curves to speak of, a fact that she is very self-conscious about. She feels less feminine for the fact that she doesn't have hips.
Her eyes are a grayish brown color and her eyelashes are thin, but dark. She has what she refers to as "man-brows," thick, dark eyebrows that get out of control if she doesn't upkeep them regularly. Haruka is very pale; she doesn't like tanning and she isn't fond of heat or humidity, so she stays indoors if it's very sunny outside. Her face is soft and very readable. It's not hard to see the emotions she feels passing across her face. Haruka wear a little bit of makeup, though not very much as it does clog pores, after all. She'll put on a touch of foundation (she also uses her foundation in place of lip coloring; she prefers her lips as pale as her face so that her eyes stand out) and a little eyeliner and mascara, to thicken out her lashes.
Overall, she isn't necessarily displeased with herself, but she hasn't a very high self-image, either. Haruka just does her best to stay out of the majority's line of sight. Head down, 'boring' colors, toned-down makeup and accessories. The friends she once had called her bland and that's the best compliment she's ever received.
Evoker: Haruka's Evoker is simple. It is silver and while kept polished, obviously second-hand. She stumbled upon it shortly after awakening to her abilities: It was in a shipping of old Evokers from the Kirijo Group, ones that were either rusting or faulty for some reason. Haruka's is fine. It works well and does what it needs to. Its fault is a little ridiculous: a spelling error. Instead of reading "Kirijo" across the shaft as all the Group's standard Evokers do, it reads "Krijo."
Weapon: Haruka mainly relies on her persona's abilities to fight Shadows, but that can be draining, using skill after skill. So, to protect herself and inflict a fair amount of damage, she wields a simple pair of dual sai. They are both light and effective, in both defense and offense. She uses them with a fair amount of skill, though no one is perfect and she will miss once in a while. Her persona's good strength lends her a relatively good amount of power to her attacks. Her dual sai don't have much glamor or decoration to them: they are silver with a wrapped black handle. On the right one is a small engraving of her persona's name.
