Series: Persona 3
Name: Junpei Iori
Gender: Male
Height: 170.5 cm
Weight: 63 kg
Age: 17
Class: 2-F
Clubs: None. Junpei's only extracurriculer activities include video games, girls, and bromancing.
Likes:
Video Games- The only sport Junpei plays. And why not? It's great for hand-eye coordination! Between his busy schedule of harassing girls, getting verbally attacked by one angry Yukari Takeba, and bromancing with his best buddies(But not some stupid sausage fest!), video games still manage to weave their way into Junpei's daily routine. Homework? Irrelevant! Junpei knows when it's time to defeat the last boss in the newest installment of Dragon Quest and when physics homework can wait the next morning before the first bell rings. After all, he obviously has more to offer the world of pixels and C.G.I. than the world of academics and textbooks. As long as Junpei's contributing to the economy by buying G.P.A.-impairing video games, he knows he has done his duty as a loyal Japanese citizen.
Training in Tartarus- Okay, so Junpei's no Akihiko Sanada. So, what? Who needs muscle and a strict diet to stick it to the Shadows in Tartarus every midnight? That's right. Junpei Iori doesn't. If there is no final boss to be slayed or a skirt to be chased, Junpei is always raring to go into the darkest depths of Tartarus. With unparalleled enthusiasm, he is definitely a reliable ally. Besides, it is one of the few talents Junpei admittedly has; without the Dark Hour, Junpei is quite aware there is not much else he is needed for. He depends on the existence of Tartarus to fuel his hero complex, and more importantly, his self-esteem. Without the Dark Hour, what would this Chuck Norris of the night do?
Girls, girls, girls- ...And girls. Junpei's first love is skirt-chasing, and even if his attempts are not successful, and they usually aren't, Junpei quickly bounces back into the ring. He will do anything for just a decent glimpse at the opposite sex, and will not hesitate to employ an unsupervised comment to get his point across. His flirtatious tendencies usually end up with one raging Yukari Takeba at his heels, but at least he has finally learned to out-run her. What is she going to do anyway? Nag him to death(Although Junpei has considered that a possibility once or twice.)? But even then Yukari Takeba is not enough to take out this burning hunk of love! Where there is a skirt, there is always one Junpei Iori chasing it.
Chidori Yoshino- Every Superman needs a lady at his side, and who better to fill this role than one cute gothic lolita? Junpei Iori purposelessly stumbled on this red-headed beauty one dull summer's noon. With one turn of her head and a snappy remark, she had his heart at "Move." Fascinated by her passion to draw, Junpei decided to return everyday until he could get a name out of the ice queen. He would have happily tap-danced on his hands or even jumped through a flaming hoop to get her attention, but one over-the-top manga-esque speech was enough. After he rendezvouzed with her on one fateful Dark Hour, she was captured by S.E.E.S. and imprisoned in the hospital for answers she might have had regarding a rivaling faction, Strega. Although she refused to speak on the subject, it did not take Junpei much to get a word out of his "Chidorita." The two quickly became sewn at the hip and Junpei's after school days, which before had been spent in idle gaming and sexual harassment, were now they were filled by wooing this foxy red-head. Come rain or shine, Junpei would always be at her side.
Dislikes:
Sausage Fests- Junpei despises an overwhelming amount of testosterone in the air, and Junpei can certainly tell when male-bonding time has just become a giant weenie roast. He vastly prefers to be surrounded by a room of voluptuous beauties who scorn his presence than a room full of not-so-bodacious guys who would praise his existence. Not that he minds spending time with a few of his best guy friends and do a little bromancing, but there is a drawing line when a group of four or more bromantics starts looking like the latest Pride Parade. Hoes before bros, dude.
Homework- Self-explanatory. The very name just hurts his eyes when he looks at it. Junpei would rather bury himself into a nice bosom than a textbook anyday. After all, what's Schrodinger's stupid cat going to help him do in life except advocate animal abuse?
Yukari's Nagging- Sometimes, it just seems like it's never going to end. Junpei usually drowns her nagging out the same way he drowns out the teachers at school--- usually by ignoring it, or even coming up with some snarky remark to keep her quiet, which never works. They fight like cats and dogs, brother and sister, Arizona and brown people, etc.
Inferiority- No one likes to be the underdog. Junpei Iori is no exception. If the sun shines brighter than Junpei Iori, then apocalypse is nigh. He has a tendency to take out all his underdog rage on the person who put him in that position, and that responsibility usually falls on the shoulders of one Minato Arisato. With his awe-inspiring strength, dashing good looks, and unparalleled academics, what's not to hate about the guy? His impromptu messiah complex overshadows Junpei. The stage is just too small for the both of them, and Junpei has every intention to make it as uncomfortable for Minato as he can. The Magician's secret is out.
Alcohol- Is there anything to love about the toxic addiction? Junpei dealt with an alcoholic throughout his life---his father. As a result of his drunken stupor, he would often snap at the smallest of follies, and Junpei was usually the one to suffer the consequences. As a child Junpei feared his father's bouts of rage, but as he grew older and his father weaker, he began to view him as the pathetic low-life he truly was. Due to his father's sub-par parenting and alcohol addiction, Junpei disapproves of alcohol in general, and refuses to even so much as look at the stuff.
Personality: Junpei Iori is just your friendly neighborhood class clown. He is the first to initiate a friendly welcome, and eagerly reaches out a helping hand to the new kid; he had been the new kid before, after all. The conniving pervert usually has one scheme or another up his sleeve, and it usually involves an ingenius plot to get a date for Saturday night. Despite his fruitless efforts, he quickly recovers and moves on to the next skirt. Like any normal teen, he hates homework. His uninspiring academics were never his greatest attribute, and he has long given up on the attempt to try to recover them from rock-bottom. People who stay on his good side generally enjoy his good-natured humor and his quotable commentary. Despite his comical facade and good-natured humor, Junpei is full of doubt and insecurity. His newfound power gave him a sense of necessity; to be needed by the world was the greatest elixer to his secretly wounded ego. However, the more he drinks of power, the more unsatisfied he grows when he realizes that his best just is not good enough standing next to S.E.E.S.'s esteemed leader. He has a tendency to make some snarky remark regarding how it sucks to be the leader, which contradicts on his prior enthusiasm to take on the role. All his untapped rage usually ends up directed at those around him, and when the pressure caves it usually has a tendency to be a very shrewd, angry collapse. Junpei admits to himself that he knows his talk is what builds him up to be so great. He knows that unlike S.E.E.S.'s leader, he is unable to support what he says with the respective amount of action due behind his words. However, Junpei is a very reliable friend and comrade whose presence is imperative to S.E.E.S's success.
History: Junpei grew up in a stressed situation. His father was an alcoholic, and there is no mention of his mother ever being around. As a result, his father took out his drunken rage on the boy's follies to the point where Junpei feared his father. However, as he grew older and his father grew weaker, Junpei looked down on his father the pitiful person he truly was. He later transferred to Gekkoukan High School, where he earned himself the reputation as the class clown and the class flirt. Overall, Junpei had a pretty good stance at school with a decent amount of friends. It was not until his second year of high school when he met the "new kid" did his entire year turn upside down. Days after the new student's arrival, he encountered the mysterious Dark Hour. Junpei began to panic, but was fortunately found by Akihiko Sanada. He was later informed that he had something called the "potential", which would enable him to battle the monsters, the Shadows, that lurked in the hidden power. By using the power "Persona", Junpei was able to join the ranks of S.E.E.S., a group dedicated to the exploration of the Dark Hour and defeating Shadows. He utilizes the Persona Hermes.
However, when S.E.E.S. decides to pioneer into the unexplored abyss known as Tartarus, Junpei is gung-ho to dive in headfirst. Upon the selection of a leader to dive into Tartarus's darkest depths, Junpei quickly nominated himself to be the leader, but was shot down for the new kid instead. As a result, Junpei harbored a lot of frustration and animosity toward the new leader.
He spends most of his time playing video games, checking out the convenience store, and anticipating the next member--- especially those of the feminine persuasion. Junpei is eager for the next big thing to occur in the world of the Dark Hour, but his enthusiasm often leads to difficult and fatal situations. He grows used to daily life in S.E.E.S. and familiarizes himself with the routine. However, there is a part of Junpei that still feels insecure; that he is the puzzle piece that does not quite belong with the rest. One day, he meets Chidori Yoshino, to whom he feels he can entrust with his dark secret about the hidden hour. As he grows to know her, he departs his innermost truths to her. In turn she enjoys his company. As a result of meeting Chidori, Junpei matures into a strong, determined young man.
