Kicking the ground with her toe, Yukiko's gaze shifted between her feet, Kou's face, and their joint hands. Words had suddenly decided to fail her and she was left with a slight feeling of loss as she tried to figure out what to do. Her chest was growing tighter by the second, making it difficult to speak, but she new there was something that needed to be said.
"Kou-kun..." the raven began, wrapping her second hand around Kou's. "I... like you very much." If it was possible, her cheeks doubled in colour as her gaze fell back to the ground, unable to meet the other's gaze. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she waited, half expecting Kou to claim to claim it was all a big joke.
"I'm sorry," she muttered, starting to pull away. "I-I didn't mean to be so forward."

Kou looked up in surprise at Yukiko, not quite sure if his ears were deceiving him. Had Yukiko actually returned his feelings? Surely not, why would Yukiko be interested in him; she could do much better than him, she could have almost anyone she knew, so why him?
"Y-you do?" Kou asked, half expecting Yukiko to start laughing at him. Which was a silly thought really, Yukiko was hardly a cruel person, she wasn't exactly likely to start doing that. "But I should be the one apologizing, I was the one that started this after all..." The captain said as he began pulling away as well, now feeling very awkward indeed.

Nodding quietly, Yukiko released Kou's hands with a hushed apology, worried that she may have over-stepped her boundaries. She wrapped her fingers around the hem of her shirt, trying to calm the spastic twitching movements that had started in them. Her cheeks were still a brilliant shade of red that could have rivaled the sweater she so often wore, and part of her truly wished for nothing more than to melt into the ground.
"I..." the raven paused awkwardly, peering up at Kou with a nervous smile. "Most boys ask me out on a date before asking my name. It's hard for me to be at ease around anyone who is male. Chie is so much better at talking to boys than me because she can share common interests with them. Me, on the other hand... I'm really only good for 'showing off.' But..."
Trailing off, Yukiko cleared her throat and turned away, clasping her hands behind her back. It was strange how words seemed to be coming to her so easily now, which begged the question of why it had been so difficult before. "...It's easy for me to stay calm around you, and I really enjoy our time together. I enjoyed our study sessions so much, and everyday I would look forward to them. You're so kind and fun to be around... and I really like being able to spend time with you." She placed a slender hand on her chest as she turned around, smiling softly, "I always feel warm and happy when we talk--b-but, I guess that sounds rather silly, doesn't it?"

"No, no, it doesn't sound silly." Kou said rubbing the back of his head while staring awkwardly at the ground. "I, uh, know what you mean, though I never really gave much thought to what it meant before now. I don't think you have to worry so much about not sharing more male hobbies and interests though. I mean, they can only get you so far, it's who you are at the end of the day that matters to someone who actually cares, not your interests." The captain said looking back up at Yukiko, now at least being able to get his words out.
"I mean, I don't care if you like basketball or whatever, I just like you for who you are." Kou said mentally cringing at the cheesiness of that line. "I suppose that sounded pretty stupid, huh?"

As a smile slowly grew across her face, Yukiko's mind drifted back to the hidden castle in the TV world she'd been trapped in for several days. The words of her Shadow echoed inside her head, repeating all the desperate pleas to be rescued and whisked away, followed be gentle acceptance that she did have choices and she wasn't as trapped as she thought--and of course, her prince. For a brief moment, she glanced at Kou and imagined him in royal garb, puffy shorts, crown, and all, causing her smile to grow.
"I don't think it sounds stupid at all," the raven said softly, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I think that's a really wonderful thing to say, Kou-kun." With each word she spoke, the inn-keeper felt as if weight was slowly being lifted off her chest, making it easier to keep talking. The awkwardness was still there, but as the minutes passed, things started to feel slightly more natural.

"Oh, you think so?" Kou said looking at Yukiko and noticing her smile, which in turn caused the captain to smile as well and made him feel more at ease than he was before. He still felt awkward, naturally, but at least he was able to keeping looking at Yukiko rather than his shoes now, which was at least some progress.
Kou then fell slightly silent, not entirely sure where to go from there. He had already told Yukiko his feelings and she in turn told him hers. He was hesitant to do anything as bold as ask her on a date or anything like that, since doing so seemed even more forward than he had already been. Though, it did seem as if it were the logical next step, after all, that's the sort of thing they'd do in the movies now, right?
"So, do you think that maybe you'd want to go out sometime? With me, that is." Kou asked finally, not quite sure how the day had gone so far from what he had expected. He had only come over to teach Yukiko about basketball, and now here he was, asking her on a date. Funny how plans can change so drastically so suddenly.
